The Bachelor: Emily Says NASCAR Date Helped Her Gain Closure

Emily Maynard is now speaking out about ABC’s promo’d NASCAR date, which was heavily critiqued by viewers who thought it was unfair to the contestant. The Bachelor contestant says the NASCAR date actually helped her with the grieving process. Keep reading to see what she had to say about next week’s date…

“The Bachelor” contestant Emily Maynard opened up to People about the controversial NASCAR group date airing next week on the show. According to People, the emotional date helped Emily move forward after fiancé Ricky Hendrick’s death in a plane crash.

“[As] you’ll see, the experience actually helped me gain some closure,” Emily told People.

She asked fans not to jump to any conclusions until they’ve watched the episode.

“I know there has been a lot of talk and concern recently over the upcoming episode of ‘The Bachelor’ with the NASCAR-themed group date,” she says to the magazine. “Although I appreciate everyone’s concern, I ask that you reserve judgment until after you’ve seen the actual episode…”

Promos for next week’s episode reveal “Bachelor” Brad Womack takes the girls to a NASCAR racetrack for some driving, which Emily says helped her gain closure.

“The first few laps were for Ricky and the last lap was for me,” Emily tells People. ” I’m just really ready to move on and find love again.”

Emily does get emotional on the track, letting Brad console her and give her a rose, People reports.

The 25-year-old “Bachelor” contestant tells People she “never wanted to be the sympathy vote on the show.”

“It’s something that’s really private to me and something I don’t like to talk about a whole lot,” Emily tells the magazine. “I never wanted to get a rose because that happened to me.”

People’s interview with Emily reveals she has no hard feelings towards Brad for the date, calling him a “gentleman” and “the best guy.”

“The Bachelor” airs Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
