Shedding For The Wedding: Meet The Couples Competing In CW’s New Weight-loss Show

The CW has revealed the names and stories of the engaged couples competing to lose the most weight before their wedding on new show Shedding For The Wedding. Keep reading to meet the couples…

Shedding For The Wedding will feature nine engaged couples determined to lose weight to win their dream wedding. The show will be hosted by former Jenny Craig spokeswoman and actress Sara Rue.

Here are the nine couples, their stories and approaches to the competition:

“Team Fairy Tale” a.k.a Allison & David

Allison
Age: 28
Starting weight: 170 lbs.

David
Age: 26
Starting weight: 265 lbs.

How they met:            Online in April of 2009
Engaged:                      December, 2009
Wedding colors:         Ivory & Champagne Pink
Hometown:                 Auburn, New York

The couple says they’ve got a “champagne taste on a beer budget.” Allison wants to lose at least 50 lbs while David is going for 70. The two say their weight has been a constant problem with both feeling self conscious. They’re determined to put their best foot forward on the show and say they won’t give up.

“Team Fun & Games” a.k.a Dawn & Adam

Age: 27
Starting weight: 180 lbs.

Adam
Age: 30
Starting weight: 235 lbs.

How they met:              Dawn noticed Adam’s photo on a friend’s MySpace page and thought he was cute, so she initiated contact.
Engaged:                        Early 2010
Wedding colors:           Purple & Fuchsia
Hometown:                   Hayward, California

Dawn says she’s tried to get Adam to eat healthier with her, but he can’t stand vegetables. Adam says he’s looking forward to an improved love life after the show. “We’re such a great couple with our clothes on, how come we can’t have the opposite,” he says. Will the show get them eating healthier?

“Team Hollywood” a.k.a Laeresa & Stephen

Stephen
Age: 24
Starting weight: 263 lbs.

How they met:             Four years ago at Universal City Walk while Laeresa was visiting Los Angeles on vacation.
Engaged:                      Stephen wants to wait until he can afford to get her the ring she deserves before proposing.
Wedding colors:          Red & Blue
Hometown:                  Hawthorne, California

There’s nothing more this couple would want then a dream Hollywood wedding. Stephen says they’re trying to get in shape for the wedding and for a better life. Laeresa dreams of fitting into a wedding dress that will show off her curves and Stephen wants to look great at the beach. It’s “go hard, or go home” for these two who say they’re “gonna bring it.”

“Team Football” a.k.a. Laura & Austin

How they met:            At a bar (she was bartending, and he was a permanent fixture “like Norm on ‘Cheers’”)
Engaged:                      November, 2009
Wedding colors:         Green & Gold
Hometown:                 Champaign, Illinois

Football defines this couples relationship. Their dream wedding would be held in a stadium. They’re excited about the possibility of winning a dream wedding and hope the show will get them in shape and set a good example for their future.

“Team Greek Week” a.k.a. Lindsey & Chase

Chase
Age: 24
Starting weight: 317 lbs.

How they met:            At one of Chase’s frat parties in January of 2008
Engaged:                      November, 2009
Wedding colors:         Blue & Orange
Hometown:                 Houston, Texas

Lindsey and Chase met back in college at a frat party so “Greek Week” is the dream wedding theme. Lindsey says she doesn’t feel comfortable at her current weight and practices abstinence before marriage simply because she doesn’t feel comfortable with her current body. Chase is also looking to get in shape as he has dreams of becoming a police officer. They’re ready t0 bring some “Greek Week” to this competition.

“Team Eco-Lovers” a.k.a. Samantha & Brooks

Age: 22
Starting weight: 221 lbs.

Brooks
Age: 22
Starting weight: 315 lbs.

How they met:            In middle school (ages 11 & 12), and they have been together ever since.
Engaged:                      January, 2010
Wedding colors:         Sage Green & Plum
Hometown:                 New Hampshire, Ohio

Sam and Brooks want to have the ultimate eco-friendly wedding, which is a tough task in their hometown. Aside from winning a dream wedding, the two also want to shed some pounds. They say weight stops them from doing a lot of things, including wearing certain clothes. They’re hoping Shedding For The Wedding changes their lives.

“Team Gamers” a.k.a Taylor & Peter

Taylor
Age: 23
Starting weight: 228 lbs.

Peter
Age: 28
Starting weight: 210 lbs.

How they met:            Online, playing Final Fantasy XI together.
Engaged:                      November, 2009
Wedding colors:         Chocolate Brown & Green
Hometown:                 Arlington, Texas

Taylor and Peter got a rude awakening at the huge wedding cost when planning their own. They’re here to win the wedding of their dreams and say they are too fat. Taylor and Peter don’t have a very active lifestyle, as gaming is their number one hobby. Taylor says she knows she can lose the weight and really wants to. Peter says his “man boobs” aren’t invited to the wedding. Will they be able to change their “couch-potato” lifestyle to win the show.

“Team Big Band” a.k.a. Valerie & Dave

David
Age: 27
Starting weight: 367 lbs.

How they met:            In college in Florida
Engaged:                      January, 2010
Wedding colors:         Canary Yellow & Blue Violet
Hometown:                 North Hollywood, California

The couple wants a big band wedding to embody their passion for music. Valerie says if she got married at her current weight she wouldn’t be happy. Dave says they want to start a new, healthy life. Valerie feels confidant in the couple as a team and says the other couples will have to “watch out.”

“Team Beach Romance” a.k.a Ginny & Marc

Age: 26
Starting weight: 179 lbs.

Marc
Age: 36
Starting weight: 241 lbs.

How they met:              At one of the comedy clubs Marc owns, in 2007
Engaged:                       July, 2010
Wedding colors:           Baby Pink & Taupe
Hometown:                   Babylon, New York

Ginny has already lost a lot of weight before and says she wants to do it again. Marc is a little less certain about shedding the weight. Ginny says she doesn’t mind his “love affair with Entenmann’s” as long as her wedding plans follow through and will do anything to lose weight.

Looks like the nine couples have a lot of work ahead of them to win that dream wedding, but they all seem determined to succeed.

Shedding For The Wedding premieres Feb. 23 at 9/8c on the CW.
