ITV have announced that Betty Driver – who of course plays Betty Williams – is to be honoured for her long service to the show in a special documentary that airs next month.
Betty has played the well loved barmaid since 1969 – when her character’s surname was Turpin – and during the documentary, we’ll hear how Betty landed the role after initially auditioning for the part of Hilda Ogden.
Narrated by Sir Ian McKellen, the documentary will also feature contributions from Betty’s co-stars including William Roache, Julie Goodyear, Helen Worth, Sue Nicholls, Antony Cotton and Bill Kenwright.
The Betty Driver Story airs on Tuesday February 1st at 8pm on ITV1.
