For those of you who tuned into season one of Worst Cooks In America on Food Network, surely you remember Sophia Gettys who was eliminated only a few weeks into the season. Sophia, who left the competition as an overweight, unhealthy mom who wanted to change her life for the healthier, has done just that as only a year later Sophia has dropped a massive amount of weight and has even tackled a marathon! Keep reading for all the details!
Worst Cooks In America on Food Network obviously had an impact on Sophia Gettys life. She came into the competition for season one as overweight mom who could not cook to save her life. These days Sophia is cooking healthier and taking better care of herself and it shows as she has gone from 270 lbs to around 140 lbs. What does Sophia have to say about her new lifestyle? According to the Denver Post Sophia says “Making healthy choices is a new thought process. Making healthy choices every single day isn’t about your BMI. It’s about your self worth. Do you take steps every day to live well? Are you taking the stairs? Are you having an apple instead of a cookie? Do you go back to those healthy choices if you do slip and have a cookie? I don’t measure by sizes or pounds. I measure myself in the miles I run and the experiences I have. If the weight comes off, it comes off. And if it doesn’t, I’ll still continue this lifestyle.”
And speaking of running, not only has Sophia Gettys lost all that weight, but she actively runs and has even completed a marathon! Sophia completed the 2010 New York City Marathon in 6 hours, longer than she had hoped it would take but a huge accomplishment in less than a year’s time of being so unhealthy. Sophia went on to say “Since I started running, I’ve learned self-control and patience. Self-control because you tell yourself, ‘This is only a couple of hours, but it’s an amazing experience that you’ll cherish the rest of your life.’” Kudos to Sophia for turning her life around for the better, we look forward to more inspiring updates from her!
