Fort Hood shooting survivor, Patrick Ziegler, and his new wife, Jessica, recently spoke out about the new home they received courtesy of ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Read on to get a sneak peek at this couple and how their community rallied to help…

Staff Sergeant Patrick Ziegler is not only a newlywed, but a recipient of an Extreme Makeover Home Edition home makeover. The couple recently met with ABC’s News Channel 25 to discuss their new home. Patrick, a Fort Hood shooting survivor, and Jessica, his new bride, told reporters that after the house reveal, the surprises kept coming, including free home maintenance from Tillson Homes for as long as they occupy the house, and free meals for life from Kileen’s Texas Roadhouse Restaurant. Jessica admitted, “Yes, our heads are spinning, but we’re so happy and humbled.”

Patrick and Jessica also wanted to thank the numerous volunteers and corporations who supported the construction of their new 2,900 square foot home in less than one week. Jessica felt that a simple thank you seemed insufficient, but assured the press that they are, “So excited to start their life together.”

With Patrick’s hospital release pending, the couple didn’t know exactly where they were going to go to live, or what they were going to do. The new home relieved that burden. Jessica told News Channel 25, “Thanks to the community, a lot of the uncertainty has turned to security and happiness and warmth.”

In addition to Patrick and Jessica Ziegler’s new home, Dan Walrath of Operation Finally Home, has announced that new neighbors will be also be installed next door. His organization intends to construct another home for a wounded serviceman, and will allow Patrick and his wife to weigh in on who the heroic recipient should be.

News Channel 25 plans to air a special episode depicting the work that went on behind-the-scenes on the Extreme Makeover Home Edition build. It is scheduled to air on Thursday, February 10, just a few days before the Ziegler Family episode of EM:HE airs on Sunday, February 13.
