Adrian Chiles has been taking presenting tips from Piers Morgan.
The ‘Daybreak’ host – who fronts the show with Christine Bleakley – has faced criticism for his “grumpiness” on the morning show and admits he is aware he needs to relax more.
He said: “I don’t really do chirpiness. Christine does. I can’t bear the sight of myself in the morning. I wouldn’t want to wake up with me. That’s the issue. My mind will wander off in the middle of a live interview. It’s horrendous.
“But yes, I’m aware you need to look relaxed.
“Piers Morgan was really helpful. He gave me a team talk about six weeks ago at his local. He told me, ‘You’ve got to cheer up a bit. People don’t want to look at a grumpy bloke for two hours every morning.’ He said to take responsibility, drive the mood of it. Piers ought to be a life coach.”
Despite acknowledging he needs to relax and be chirpier, Adrian claims there are some basic problems with the set which prevent him from doing so.
He told Live magazine: “I’ve got to get a decent sofa. I’m not comfortable in my skin anyway but you can’t sit back on it, you can’t sit upright on it, you can’t lean anywhere on it. That’s pretty fundamental. And I need to go back to wearing a suit. The jumper makes me look and feel like an unmade bed.”
