Despite rumors of diva-like behavior on the set, Steven Tyler says that his American Idol co-star, Jennifer Lopez, is exactly what he thought she’d be–”ridiculous” and “street.” But he doesn’t mean it in a bad way!

“First and foremost, she’s a lady and she’s not afraid to show that any given time,” said Steven Tyler of pop-star Jennifer Lopez earlier this month at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C..

“She’s ridiculous. You know, she’s exactly what I thought she’d be. She’s street.”

But rest assured, the 62-year-old Aerosmith frontman meant it all with love as he dished with Us Magazine about what it’s been like sitting at the judges’ table with Jennifer Lopez this season.

And though Steven Tyler says that Lopez has been “incredible” when it comes to being honest with contestants during the competition, the rocker admits that he’s been having a little trouble.

“It’s hard when you have a kid who’s 15-years-old, who’s been watching American Idol for the last 10 years,” said Tyler. “And some of them were awful. I just say something like, ‘Did you bump your head on the way in?’”

Not nearly as rough as some of the things audiences were used to hearing from former Idol judge, Simon Cowell, but Tyler says that he’s not one for putting people down.

“I’m really not one for giving insults,” the legendary rocker told Us Magazine. “They have a voice and I don’t want them not singing to their kids when they grow up.”

Season 10 of American Idol, featuring Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, premieres Wednesday, January 19 on FOX.
