It’s that time of year again…. Time for the office holiday parties! And love ‘em or hate ‘em, we all know that it’s probably best that you at least make an effort to show up. BUT, before you plan on going and saddling up to the open bar, Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti Stanger, has some rules to help you get through the evening with as little embarrassment as possible, and maybe even make a love connection.
Rule #1: Stick to a two-drink maximum
There goes our strategy! But according to Patti Stanger, this rule is especially important for office parties. “You don’t want to get too drunk because the boss can be on the premises and it’s gonna get back,” Stanger told Us Magazine.
And even if your boss is doing a lot of drinking, people always talk, so just don’t take that chance.
Rule #2: Keep your clothes on
This rule is good for many different scenarios in life, not just office holiday parties. Much like NeNe Leakes’, “Keep your legs closed to married men,” which we suggest Patti also adds to her list of office holiday party rules.
“Don’t be that crazy girl that takes off her clothes,” says Stanger. “You don’t want to be that girl.”
Rule #3: Mingle, mingle, mingle
If you’re going to have any kind of all (especially if you’re sticking to the two-drink maximum), it’s important that you work the room. “Girls need to break away from the girls and go to the man,” says Patti Stanger. “And men need to beak away from the men and go to the girls. You’re never going to get anyone if you stand back and are protected by the wolf den.”
That is–if you’re trying to meet someone.
Rule #4: Pay love forward
“If you meet a guy and you think he’s cute, tell him you wish you could find a guy just like him,” advises Stanger. “If he likes you, he’ll cross the street and ask you out.”
And if office romances are a no-no, Patti suggests fixing co-workers up with your friends.
“Say, ‘I’d love to fix you up with one of my friends outside of the office.’ Get the referral and pay it forward.”
