Doctor Who’s Time Lord is “rubbish” with women, Matt Smith has claimed.
The actor – who plays the time travelling Doctor in the hit BBC One sci-fi series – explained that while his character has all of time and space at his disposal, he finds human relationships tough to navigate.
He said: “He finds human relationships difficult to understand. I don’t think he’s very good with girls and I actually think it’s more fun if he’s not, but then in the Christmas special he bagged Marilyn Monroe.
“No one wants to see the adventures of The Doctor with girls, it just wouldn’t be that interesting.”
Head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat agrees with the star and admitted despite being 900 years old, the “uncool” Time Lord has no idea how to deal with the opposite sex.
He added: “I think all men are secretly rubbish with girls and there’s no pause woman with The Doctor. He just says it. He’s got this young body but he’s over 900 years old.
“It’s hard work for him because his notion of cool or charisma doesn’t involve pretending, he’s not cool.”
‘Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol’ will air on BBC One at 6pm on Christmas Day.
