Mike was confident going into last night’s The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection, but he was the one who ended up leaving. By choice. A surprising move for sure, but in an extended video for Bravo, Mike explained his decision to leave The Fashion Show Ultimate Challenge in a blaze of glory.

First of all, the fashion designer from California explained that on The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection he was trying new techniques that he’s never done before, like working with leather in a dress, and he wasn’t exactly sure where he was going.

Of his plan of attack for the show he shared, “Coming into this competition, I really thought there’s a couple of different ways this could go. The one way is, I go in, I analyze the situation, see what my competition is and push my way all through to the end. The other option is, I go in, see what it’s all about, realize it’s not for me and walk off the show.” Clearly option two was for him.

Mike didn’t want to come off as selfish, but felt he had to do what was in his best interest. At least he warned his team beforehand that they would have to pick up the slack and create an additional piece of fashion in his absence. Having already mentally checked out, Mike didn’t care if his team won the challenge and felt no responsibility for adding to the work they would have to do.

In his parting statement, Mike said, “I think it’s been a good experience overall. I’m definitely glad I came. I don’t really feel like I made any mistakes in the challenge or the competition. I played it exactly the way that I wanted to play it and I’m proud of what I’ve done and I’m walking away extremely happy.” Wonder if his ex-teammates on House of Nami feel the same way.

Of competing on The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection,  Mike ultimately felt, “This isn’t right for me. I don’t feel good about this. It doesn’t represent me as a designer. The best thing for me is to go back to L.A. and work on my own collections.”
